Help Create OSHA Standards!

From construction to manufacturing to agriculture, Iowa is no stranger to excessive heat conditions. Most people would be surprised to find out that OSHA does not have rules for employers regarding what is safe working conditions in excessive heat. Often workers have an insufficient water supply, are exposed to extreme heat, no air movement, continuous machine heat, etc. These conditions can become dangerous quickly and a plan that protects workers and their health is needed. This regulation will give OSHA the authority to ensure employers have a plan in place to protect their employees and investigate reports of unsafe working conditions.

Like any regulation for business, there is opposition for more rules. We are calling on workers across Iowa to submit comments regarding the importance of protecting workers’ health and safety on the job. You can find the full document and comment section through this link: Heat Injury and Illness Prevention in Outdoor and Indoor Work Settings.
